How to Treat Teak Patio Furniture
- 1). Mix warm water and a mild detergent such as dish soap in a large bowl or a bucket, until it forms suds. You can use specialized wood cleaner, such as Murphy's Oil Soap, if you choose, but it is not required.
- 2). Soak a lint free cloth in the soapy water and wipe it all over the teak patio furniture. This will remove dirt, oil and mold.
- 3). Rinse the furniture with plain water to remove residual soap or dirt. Allow the furniture to dry overnight before continuing.
- 4). Sand the teak surface with a fine grain sandpaper, 320 grain or higher. Sand with the grain of the wood, and sand lightly so as not to cause any damage. You just want to remove any surface fading and back to the natural color of the wood.
- 5). Wipe away any residual sanding dust with a clean, dry lint free cloth.
- 6). Paint an even layer of teak oil onto the exposed surfaces of the teak furniture with a paintbrush. Allow the first coat to dry for at least an hour before applying the second.
- 7). Apply as many coats of teak oil as you want until you get the desired color. Each coat will make the color a little darker.
