How many times have you gone on holiday and spent the whole journey to the airport wondering if you forgot to pack something in your suitcase? Have you ever spent the whole flight to your holiday destination wondering if you forgot to do something before you left? Being organised and prepared well in advance is the best way to ensure you don't have to worry about anything and enjoy a hassle free holiday.
In this article we will look at all the essential preparations you need to make when planning your holiday.
Two to Three weeks before your departure day Visa - Check to see if you need a Visa for your holiday destination, for full details on travel restrictions and visa requirements look on the foreign office website.
Let's take a look at the requirements for some of 2010's popular holiday destinations: Egypt - You will need a passport that is valid for at least 6 months after leaving Egypt and you will need to apply for a visa from the Egyptian consulate.
Please note, British passports travelling for up to 14 days to Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba and Taba resorts only, do not require a visa.
Travellers will receive a free entry stamp on arrival.
If you intend to travel outside any of these areas or stay longer than 14 days, you will require a visa.
Turkey - You will be required to purchase a visa which is valid for 90 days upon arrival and costs approximately ten pounds.
The only exception is if you are on a cruise ship and are just visiting for the day, in this instance you are not required to purchase a visa.
USA - In the majority of cases British citizens do not need a passport if you are visiting the USA for business or pleasure lasting less than 90 days.
Travel Insurance - According to a survey by British insurance Brokers an astonishing twenty five percent of holiday makers leave without getting any travel insurance.
If you end up getting stuck in an airport, losing your luggage or needing any medical treatment abroad you may not survive without insurance.
I cannot urge you enough to get some kind of travel insurance before you leave for your holiday.
Medication / Vaccinations - Ensure you have been to your doctor and ordered extra medication you may need while away.
Going without enough medication to keep you fit and healthy could end up cutting your holiday short.
For the sake of a trip to the doctors or a phone call its not worth assuming you have just enough to get by while you are away.
Also be sure to check with your doctor to see if you need any vaccinations for your chosen holiday destination.
