    • 1). Shut down your laptop's operating system, and then close the LCD panel. Disconnect all cables and devices from your computer. Place the laptop face down.

    • 2). Locate the locking tab securing your Acer Extensa's battery pack to the bottom casing of the laptop. Push down on the locking tab, and then lift the battery pack out of its compartment and set it aside.

    • 3). Locate the lower cover in the left section of the laptop's bottom casing. The lower cover conceals your laptop's RAM, hard drive and network cards. Remove the seven Phillips-head screws securing the lower cover to the laptop. Use a small, flat-head screwdriver to pry off and remove the lower cover from the laptop.

    • 4). Locate the hard drive compartment in the upper right-hand corner of the bottom casing of the laptop. Remove the foam padding from the hard drive compartment. Grasp the black tab protruding from the hard drive. Pull the hard drive towards you until the hard drive has disconnected from its power and data connectors. Lift the hard drive out of its compartment.

    • 5). Locate and remove the rubber enclosure kit along the outside edges of the hard drive. The rubber enclosure kit is essentially rubber lining around the outside edge of the hard drive. Transfer the rubber enclosure kit to the replacement hard drive.

    • 6). Place the new hard drive inside the hard drive compartment so the label is facing upwards and so the hard drive's power and data connectors are facing toward the top of the hard drive compartment. Push the hard drive into the hard drive compartment until it is seated fully inside the compartment.

    • 7). Replace the lower cover and its seven retaining screws. Place the battery pack inside its compartment, and then push down on the battery until the locking tab snaps the battery into place.

    • 8). Flip the laptop over, and then reconnect the power cable and peripheral devices. Open the LCD screen, and then turn on your laptop to test your new hard drive.
