In today's society internet marketing plays a large roll in many peoples lives and if you know how to utilise the web to its maximum potential you can become very successful in a relatively short space of time.
However, merely having a great website is not enough, you need to be able to drive the traffic to your site and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), is how successful websites achieve this.
So, how does SEO work? To sell a product online, people need to visit your website to see what you are selling.
There are many search engines, but the most commonly used at the moment are Google & Yahoo.
When you 'Google' for anything you need to type in a word or phrase in the search box and it is these words and phrases used that are the key to successful SEO.
You are then given a list of websites that contain the word or phrase you have entered.
Most people will not look past the top ten websites listed on the first page of Google or Yahoo.
Therefore you want your website to be one of those top ten, as these are the ones most visited by browsers.
A good SEO planned website enables you to achieve a high ranking position by using keywords and key phrases in your articles and by hitting as many keywords as possible a website will raise its ranking in the various search engines used.
This should in turn improve the volume of traffic to your website and produce higher sales and profits! However, once a high ranking position has been achieved, it is very important to keep these placements up and working.
There is a lot of steady work and constant promotion needed with SEO on a daily basis to keep up your site position.
Your promoter must use all of their skills, knowledge and techniques available to them to keep ahead of the competition.
I hope this has taken some of the 'Mystery' out of SEO for you!
