    Miniatures

    • Desserts that are easily made in miniature sizes, such as muffins, are a fun idea for a baby shower. People like to mingle and move around at social gatherings. Making the event a fun filled conversation is done by offering miniature foods. Placing muffins, candies and cupcakes the size of a doll's fist into miniature bassinets strategically placed around the room makes the party one where people do not feel the need to sit down. Other types of small, hand-held items that will fit inside the bassinets are mini-pies, homemade chocolates and finger sandwiches.

    Tea Time

    • For a more settled and restful baby shower, setting the time of the event during early afternoon, such as 2 p.m., is an excuse for having tea and biscuits. Scones, biscuits and small hand-held cakes are the traditional accompaniments of tea during English tea time. Using cream cheese or jam as spreads, the guests can drink their tea and dip their scones in quiet, celebratory elegance. The tea time snack is filling enough without taking up time and space that is better used for enjoying the expectant mother's time. For afterward, melt-away mints in the shape of bassinets are a good closing item.

    Chocolate Candies

    • When planning an event or party, it is important to remember small items go fast. When making chocolate candies for baby shower events, make multiple types and multiple batches. Place the chocolates in little wicker bassinets for placement upon the dining tables. Another baby oriented candy holder is an over-sized plastic bottle found at party favor stores. Putting a bunch of candies into a large baby booty is also a fun party favor. Remember to check the guest list for people with nut allergies before creating nut filled candies.

    Baby Shower Buffet

    • When planning the buffet for a baby shower, remember to keep the meal light and sweet. Include items that are easily handled and blend well with all items offered. The buffet ends with a table full of desserts. Keep the baked goods with the theme of the buffet. If the buffet is a loose meat sandwich, use tarts or individual pies and cookies as the dessert. If the main course is light, the desserts should follow in that theme.
