Are You Making the Most of Twitter?

For those folks looking to Twitter to help market their small business they generally focus on the tweets.
I agree, as usual content rules, but don't think that's the only thing you need to think about.
Making the most of your Twitter profile is extremely important.
Today we're going to talk about 3 things you MUST be doing to get the full value of Twitter.
1.
PROFILE PICTURE - You will see this again and again and again...
and again! What really shocks me though is that it's still worth mentioning.
The first thing that should be done is a picture added.
I'll be completely honest with you, if you follow me and your photo looks anything like that image on the left, you will be ignored.
Well actually that's best case, worst case is I'll mark it as spam.
2.
BIO - The next thing you need to do is add your bio.
Twitter gives you 160 characters to tell all of us about you so use them! My quick intro talks about a bit about my business and myself.
I believe in Social Media being personal, so I keep my Twitter feed and my bio light yet professional.
This is also a great place to link to your newsletter or an upcoming webinar.
It's a nice support to your main URL.
3.
BRANDING - Just because Twitter isn't your business' central website doesn't mean you can leave your branding at home.
Twitter is a fantastic tool because you can make your Twitter page an extension of your brand.
Think of it as a billboard, use the background as a large representation of your business.
On the left you can see an idea of what my background looks like.
Personally I don't add links to mine since they are not clickable.
Utilize the link under your bio or add web addresses to your bio if you want more than one site.
I want to send folks to my website so I make it easy by having a clickable link under my bio.
The colors, fonts, and photos are a direct match to my website.
And one bonus tip from me to you - never speak at your followers.
Remember the "social" part is critical.
The power of the reply is amazing, both for positive comments about you or your business, or speaking to someone who may have had a negative experience.
You want to make sure all of your clients are heard, potential clients will see that.
