Grabbing the reader's attention and hanging on is absolutely mandatory if you are going to build a fan base.
You need to sell the first book.
And then you need to convince your reader to keep coming back.
The way to do that is by grabbing the reader with the title.
Then maintain that interest during the introduction and enforce it in the conclusion.
But how? Here are 4 ways to grab the reader's attention and then hang on to it.
1.
Know your reader and their most immediate and important problem.
The first and most important way to grab your reader's attention is to know what their motivation is right from the start.
You need to create a target reader and then identify their most immediate motivator.
Then you need to create a solution...
to solve the problem, avoid the fear or achieve the dream.
Your book then needs to be centered on that solution.
2.
State the problem in actual and emotional terms and repeat as needed.
One of the fastest ways to grab a reader's attention is to state their problem and offer to solve it.
Your reader is already primed to any reference to their problem.
The best way to grab their attention is by showing empathy The way to show empathy is by stating their problem.
But don't stop there.
Empathy is when you can identify not only what the problem is but also how the reader feels about the problem.
Ask them how they feel then suggest some answers.
Then tell it's all right.
They're normal to feel that way.
Everyone in their situation feels that way.
And then offer them a solution.
A way to avoid those emotions.
3.
Show your passion.
Why did you select this niche? Why did you select this topic? Because you didn't care about it? Not likely.
You selected it because you care about it.
So show your reader you care.
Let them feel your emotions.
Let them see into your heart.
If they are experiencing a problem and the resulting negative emotions, they will be more open to hearing your positive emotions.
Let them hear the hope in your voice.
So move them with emotion.
Both theirs and yours.
Make them see why you care.
Most of all make them feel that you care.
4.
Explain why now.
There are two parts to motivation.
The first is an emotional need.
We've talked about it already.
But the second is a feeling of immediacy.
To achieve this you need to explain why they need to implement your solution now.
