How to Remove Silestone Countertops From Cabinets
- 1). Score the silicone caulk around the edges of the backsplash where it meets the wall and the countertop with a sharp utility knife. Insert a putty knife between the backsplash and wall and tap the putty knife handle with a hammer to cut through the silicone caulk adhering the backsplash. Continue this along the entire length of the backsplash.
- 2). Slide a stud finder along the wall above the backsplash, and make pencil marks at each stud you locate. Knowing the location the studs behind the wall will help when removing the backsplash.
- 3). Insert a small pry bar between the back of the backsplash and the wall where a stud is located near the end of the backsplash. Tap the end of the pry bar with a hammer, and loosen the backsplash from the wall. Continue prying and hammering along the length of the backsplash.
- 4). Rock the backsplash forward and backward once it is loose from the wall. This helps to break the seal between the countertop and backsplash without scratching the countertop with your tools. Pull the backsplash off the countertop, and set it in a safe place.
- 1). Go under the cabinet and score the caulking between the cabinet frame and the bottom of the silestone countertop with a utility knife. Ensure that you work on the perimeter frame as well as the inner frame of the cabinet. Go to the top of the countertop and score any seams between multiple pieces with the utility knife.
- 2). Insert the pry bar on the open end of the countertop between front cabinet frame and bottom of the countertop. Push down on the pry bar, and pry the front of the countertop away from the cabinet frame.
- 3). Pull the pry bar out and move it down the length of the countertop. Continue prying the front of the countertop off the cabinet in this manner. This will partially disconnect half of the countertop from the frame.
- 4). Ask a helper to lift up the front of the countertop as far as possible, while you slide a piece of framing board between the top of the cabinet and bottom of the countertop. Gently lower the countertop over the board.
- 5). Go under the cabinet, and pry between the frame and countertop, while your helper gently pushes down on the front of the countertop. This combination helps disconnect the rear half of the countertop from the frame. Lift the countertop off the cabinet with the assistance of your helper, and set it in a safe place.
