How to Install Wiring on Garage Door Sensors
- 1). Go inside the garage and close its door. Flip the power switch or press the power button that turns the garage door opener off. Measure 4 inches up from the bottom right corner of the garage door. Make a mark on the edge of the garage door at the 4-inch mark with a pencil. Repeat this at the other side of the garage door.
- 2). Place a door sensor on the door frame that is right up against the side of the garage door where you made the mark, Rotate the door sensor so that the plastic-tipped front is facing toward the other side of the door. Screw the sensor to the door frame with wood screws, using a Phillips screwdriver.
- 3). Cross to the other side of the garage door. Repeat this procedure with the door sensor receiver, lining its plastic-tipped front so that it faces towards the other sensor and screwing it onto the door frame with wood screws.
- 4). Loosen the two set screws on the side of each of the sensors with a Phillips screwdriver.
- 5). Wind the two exposed wires at one end of one of the two sensor wiring cables, included with the garage door opening kit, around the two screws on the door sensor. Tighten the screws. Run this cable up the side of the garage to the opener control panel mounted on the ceiling. Affix the cable to the wall with U-clamp staples from a staple gun.
- 6). Loosen the two set screws on the control panel, designed for use with the door sensor, with the Phillips screwdriver. Wind the two exposed wires at the free end of the cable around the two screws. Tighten the screws.
- 7). Repeat this procedure with the other door sensor wiring cable and the door sensor receiver, only wiring the two exposed wires at the free end of the cable around the two set screws on the control panel that are designed for use with the receiver.
- 8). Flip the power switch or press the power button that turns the garage door opener on. Place your head against the door sensor receiver. Look towards the door sensor to verify that the beam of light coming from the sensor is aimed at the receiver.
