More and more in America we are seeing new cases of diabetes and other complications associated with being overweight or obese.
That is why exercise is such an important activity that we should make time to do each week.
You don't have to run a marathon your first time out.
You can just get outside and enjoy the sunshine by going to a local park.
Most parks have trails that your can walk or jog.
However before you begin a walking or running program it is a good idea to get yourself the appropriate shoes first.
New shoes will help you avoid sore feet or injury.
It is also important at first to pace yourself.
Don't run a marathon or walk 5 miles the first day.
It is much better to take things slow and avoid injury than to over do it.
Many doctors recommend that we exercise several times a week between 1/2 hour to one hour each time.
Exercise is not just for losing weight and burning calories.
It has other benefits as well.
For example exercise can change your mood and make you feel more positive.
You may just sleep better at night on the days that you exercised too.
Now you won't see any results at first, you will probably have to exercise on a regular basis for 4 to 6 weeks before you will notice a substantial difference.
Then once you do start to notice the difference you can increase your activity if you want.
Then by this time you can make some long term goals for yourself and really begin to see positive changes.
