I Dream a Dream - Do You?
I have an example of someone who didn't listen to the naysayers, who didn't listen to the knockers, who refused to listen to the people who told her she couldn't do it.
She had her dream and she kept that dream alive for over 30 years and when she manifested her chance to turn her dream into her reality, she grabbed that opportunity with both hands and executed her plan, and in the moments that followed she changed her life and her life will never be the same again, she saw her chance and she took it she turned her dream into her reality.
Unless you have been living under a rock for the last 2 years then you will have definitely heard of Susan Boyle.
Susan was a contestant on the television show Britain's Got Talent, when she walked out into the stage people began to laugh at her.
She hadn't even opened her mouth, they judged the book by the cover.
They saw her homely clothes, what can only be described as her birds nest hair style, her big bushy eyebrows and they thought they were in for a real treat, and they were but not the treat that they had in mind.
When they asked Susan what her dream was, she said she wanted to be a professional singer, they asked her why she hadn't done it yet, (at 46 years of age) she said that she had never had the chance, and that hopefully the show would change all that.
They asked Susan who she wanted to be like and they laughed at her when she said she wanted to be like Elaine Paige.
They asked Susan what she was going to sing, and she said "I dream a dream" from Les Miserable, (very fitting in my humble opinion) you could see the thousands of people in the audience begin to cringe at the thought of her singing but when she opened her mouth and began to sing everything changed.
The judge's were gob-smacked.
The audience was gob-smacked and within a matter of seconds Susan Boyle had changed an audience of doubters into an audience of admiring fans.
The audience were standing and applauding her after about 30 seconds of her beginning to sing.
Susan milked the audience, she had them exactly where she wanted them, she knew she had it in her, she knew what she was capable of, she didn't let anyone put her off, she didn't let anyone talk her out of it or worse still talk herself out of it, she didn't let anyone decide her worth she decided her own worth, she took an opportunity and used it to change her whole life, she turned her dream into her reality.
If a little Scottish lady from the highlands can turn her life around at 46 then what can you do? I dream a dream, do you?
