• Believe it or not, there is a poll out there that says nearly 85 percent of the women who were proposed to were disappointed in how their prospective mate popped the question. This is amazingly high. So, let us look at how a man should propose in order to elevate her disappointment. Even though the man has spoken to the woman about marriage, this should be an absolute surprise to her. It is about her and the man's intention of taking this relationship to deeper commitment. Frankly, nothing helps smooth the road for the big question than surprising her with an engagement ring. • The best way for a man to propose marriage is to choose a location that has significance for his intended financee. It should be a location that opens her heart to a special moment and time and signifies to her that she is indeed cherished and cared for. This may sound old fashioned, but romance, thankfully is not a sentiment that has fully gone by the way of the dinosaur. Men with means have popped the question in exotic locations such as Paris. Other men, who have more frugal budgets, have used their creativity to let his girl know that he desires nothing more than to spend the rest of his life with her. Most memorable proposals do not have to cost a fortune, in fact many successful ones are simple acts of unabashed vulnerability and full on effort and ingenuity. For example, this author had the privilege of witnessing a marriage proposal on an airplane from LAX to Orlando. At first, the passengers thought the plane was in the midst of being high-jacked, but thankfully, this fear was quelled when they realized that the young lady's tears were those of joy, and not brought about by a terrorist attack.
  
  

Opens Heart

• This is where the rubber meets the road. The main thing here is to simply be honest, sincere and be true to yourself. The man is asking his girl to open herself up fully and "hook her wagon to his star" as the saying goes. Women can detect insincerity as easily as they detect the stench of cheap impostor perfume, so you must be sincere and direct. Any hint of uncertainty tells her that the man himself is not certain this is a good idea. Telling her that the two of you will make a great team or that she is a fine addition to an already healthy and prosperous fiscal year is about as welcoming as a case of scabies. For the most part women, although they may communicate differently, appreciate it when a man is direct and forthright. A traditional and absolutely tried and true way to open the door for a direct and sincere proposal is to simply get on one knee. The body language is clear on this one and a direct straight up proposal is usually the best approach. Just be advised that there are other answers to the question, "Will you marry me?" than the word, "yes." If the answer is yes, the appropriate response from the man would be to passionately embrace his financee, keep his mouth shut and let her express the range of emotion she may be experiencing.
