How to Use Stamps to Make Jewelery
- 1). Lightly draw an outline of the pendant, charm or link on a clean sheet of shrink plastic. Draw the outline larger than you want the finished piece, as it will shrink up to 50 percent during heating.
- 2). Use permanent or heat-set ink to stamp your design on the plastic. The colors will intensify in the shrinking process, so stamp with lighter colors that you normally would.
- 3). Cut out the pieces, leaving the trace marks on the remaining shrink plastic. Add any additional touches with colored pencil, permanent marker or acrylic paints. Punch holes about 1/4 inch from the edge in the places where you will be connecting the elements to your jewelry.
- 4). Place your plastic pieces on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Place an additional piece of parchment paper on top of your work to prevent distortion.
- 5). Shrink the plastic pieces according to the manufacturer's directions. Lower the temperature and increase the shrink time to help reduce distortion. Allow the pieces to cool before handling.
- 6). Attach your stamped components with a jump ring to earrings, necklaces or bracelets. String suede, leather or ribbon through the holes as an alternate hanging method.
