What is the Chakra System?

The word Chakra was derived from the Sanskrit word cakra meaning "wheel".
The word refers to a spinning wheel of light or a wheel or time, and represents celestial peace and order.
The Chakra system was first described in the ancient Hindu text Vedas, the oldest written tradition in India.
It is believed, however, that the Chakra system is a philosophy that originated from the Aryans, the Indo-European invaders of India.
The Chakras described in Hindu traditions are known as the primary Chakras.
These Chakras have no specific forms or locations and are thought to be symbolic.
In the western world, however, a different Chakra system dominates; it is known as the New Age Chakra system.
New Age Chakras, unlike their primary counterpart, have specific forms and locations in the human body.
They represent energy centers, energy junctions, and points of energy entry in the body.
The New Age Chakra system consists of Chakras located along the spinal cord.
Each Chakra corresponds to a certain color, which describes the visible light spectrum associated with it.
Chakras are not physical objects but rather energy patterns shaped like funnels and are often described as "whirlpools of energy.
" There are seven major chakras in the human body.
(1) The First Chakra is located at the base of the spine and represents survival and physical vitality.
It is associated with the color RED.
(2) The Second Chakra is located at the sacral and represents desire and sexual energy.
It is associated with the color ORANGE.
(3) The Third Chakra is located at the solar plexus and represents self-image.
It is associated with the color YELLOW.
(4) The Fourth Chakra is located at the heart and represents love, compassion, and empathy.
It is associated with the color GREEN.
(5) The Fifth Chakra is located at the pit of the throat and represents communication and freedom of expression.
It is associated with the color BLUE.
(6) The Sixth Chakra is located at the forehead (often called the 3rd eye) and represents psychic vision.
It is associated with the color INDIGO.
(7) The Seventh Chakra is located at the crown of the head and represents the totality of the being and spiritual perfection.
It is associated with the color VIOLET.
The seven Chakras line up in the spinal cord.
Energy generally flows upward in the body depending on a person's specific life experience.
The lower Chakras represent the physical existence and energy ascends as a person engages in more spiritual functions.
The Chakra system is a holistic entity which means that when the one chakra is disrupted, the energy flow of whole system is affected.
An imbalanced Chakra system leads to an imbalanced life; it leads to poor physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being.
Energy healing is a topic that is often of great interest to those who realize the importance of maintaining a balanced Chakra system.
There are several ways and beliefs on how to heal the chakra system.
All, however, result in total wellness as a balanced Chakra system represents the total harmony of the body and spirit.
