Hewlett Packard is a trusted name in computers. The HP 9340F series of tower computers is no different and does what HP says it will do. To better inform their customers of the benefits of their computers, HP publishes specifications for prospective buyers to examine before making a purchase. - The motherboard is manufactured by Asus and has dimensions of 9.5-inches-by-9.5-inches. On the motherboard is an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 central processing unit (CPU). This CPU runs at a speed of 2.66 Ghz. This speed allows for video processing and other applications that require a fast processor. The motherboard supports various upgrades for the CPU itself when faster CPUs become available.
- The internal memory is six gigabytes. For video processing, the rough rule of thumb is a half hour of video per gigabyte, meaning the HP 9340F gives you about three hours of video run time. Four expansion slots are available on the motherboard to add additional memory.
- The video card resolution is 1080p of TV resolution. For computer monitor resolution, it is a maximum of 2560-by-1600 pixels. This card can support two displays at the same time -- for example, you might be playing a game on one display but watching a movie on another.
- The computer also has a built-in TV tuner card. This allows you to hook up a cable TV or satellite signal directly out of the cable box so you can watch TV on the computer. It allows the NTSC format, which is commonly used in the United States. It also allows the newer ATSC format, which is digital.
- The hard drive size is 750 gigabytes. This is sufficiently large for video, gaming, and engineering applications. As a measure, this hard drive stores 325 hours of video. If a typical movie is two hours long, this hard drive stores about 160 movies.
- Slots are provided in front for reading various cards, such as smart media and SD cards. This feature allows you to pull the card out of your digital camera and load the contents directly onto your computer instead of using a USB cable from your camera to a USB slot in the computer.
