How to Install a Pre-Made Bathtub Surround
- 1). Place the back surround panel without removing the adhesive strips' protective paper or applying any caulk. Position the other surround panels to see if they fit snugly and squarely against the wall. Drive nails at an angle in the wall above the surround pieces to hold them in place.
- 2). Remove the surround panels and shave down any wall studs that protrude too far, not allowing the surround panels to sit flat or evenly against the wall, using a wood chisel. Trim the bottom of any surround panel that sits higher than the others do by more than an 1/8 inch, using a jigsaw to cut off excess.
- 3). Spread an even amount of silicone caulk or the adhesive that came with the surround on the backside of the tub surround panels. Reposition the panels against the wall, starting with the back surround panel, locking the corners of the surround together.
- 4). Drive any fastening hardware that came with the bathtub surround through the holes in the panels and into the wall studs behind the panels. Apply bathroom caulk to the edges of the surround panels where they meet the wall, bathtub and other surround panels, using your finger to smooth out the caulk.
