How to Make Witch Costumes
- 1). Roll several sheets of newspaper into an 18-inch tall cone. The open end of the cone should fit comfortably over your head. Staple the ends of the newspaper together to hold the cone in place. Trim the open end of the cone so that it has a smooth, circular edge. Stuff the inside of the cone with crumpled paper so that it stands up straight.
- 2). Cover the cone with the black felt, fabric, or even a black trash bag. Trim the material to fit around the cone, and secure it in place with hot glue.
- 3). Make a brim for the hat by cutting 1/4-inch slits 1-inch apart all the way around the open edge of the cone. Fold the slitted tabs outward. Measure the inside diameter of the cone. Draw a circle with the same diameter in the center of the black poster board. Draw a large concentric circle around the first.
- 4). Cut the big circle out of the poster board, then cut the smaller circle out of its center. Place the cone upright on a work surface, with the tabs opened outward. Squeeze a small amount of glue onto each tab and slip the brim over the cone. Press the tabs in place to support the brim. Allow the glue to dry thoroughly.
- 1). Cut the bottom hem of a long black skirt or dress in a saw-tooth pattern. Make 18-inch long cuts up the length of the skirt.
- 2). Fold the black polyester in half to make a cape. Cut a 2-inch long strip of Velcro and separate the halves. Attach one half of the closure to the top corner of the fabric on the left side. Attach the other half of the closure at the top right corner, so that when you wrap the cape around the shoulders, the two Velcro halves meet.
- 3). Cut the bottom edge of the cape in a saw-tooth pattern, then make 12-inch long cuts from the bottom edge up.
- 4). Pull on black or striped tights under the dress and wrap the black cape around your shoulders. Place the hat on your head and secure it with bobby pins. Add accessories such as a rubber snake around your waist or neck, a plastic spider ring, or a broom.
