Homemade Cookie Gifts
- Find a cookie recipe that you like. Instead of making the dough into individual small cookies, fashion the entire batch into a giant cookie on a baking sheet. If you like, you can use a pan designed for making giant cookies. Make some frosting and place it in a cake decorating bag. Place the desired tip on the bag and decorate the edge of the giant cookie. Then use the cake decorating bag to write a message that's appropriate to the holiday or occasion on the cookie.
- Get a simple wicker basket from a dollar or discount store. Line it with a bit of gingham fabric or decorative tissue paper. Bake the homemade cookies and allow them to cool completely. Taste one of the cookies to ensure that they turned out well. Wrap each cookie separately in decorative colored cellophane (be sure that it is safe for food). Arrange the cookies in an attractive pattern within the basket. You can spruce up your homemade cookie gift basket by including a decorative mug with some gourmet tea, coffee or hot chocolate. Finish off the basket by adding a colorful bow to the front.
- A cookie bouquet looks best when made with decorated sugar cookies. Get a basic sugar cookie recipe, some cookie cutters and some long, slender wooden dowels that can withstand baking. Roll out the sugar cookies to a thickness of about 1/2 inch on a floured surface and cut them out with the cookie cutters. Transfer the cookies to a greased baking sheet. Then insert a dowel into the bottom of each cookie. Bake the cookies according to the instructions in the recipe. Allow the cookies to cool completely before attempting to handle or decorate them. Mix some powdered-sugar icing in a variety of colors to decorate your cookies. Place some floral foam inside a heavy yet small terra cotta pot. Insert the sticks into the floral foam and arrange some shredded colored paper over the top of the foam.
