How to Get Rid of Mushrooms From a Garden
- 1). Water your garden in the morning. You should never water your garden at night. Mushrooms like moisture and, when you water your garden at night, your garden takes longer to dry. In addition, keep the watering to a minimum. You don't want to kill your plants, but you do want to discourage mushroom growth.
- 2). Pick the mushrooms like weeds. Mushrooms release spores when they mature. These spores become mycelium and then eventually mushrooms. By picking mushrooms before they mature, you can reduce the spread of spores. Note, however, that spores are blown through the air by wind and thus there it is almost impossible to prevent all spores from entering your garden.
- 3). Use a fungicide. Fungicide can be spread over your lawn and garden to kill mushrooms and prevent future mushroom growth. Be sure to use a fungicide that is safe for your garden, such as Garden Safe Fungicide.
- 4). Do not eat mushrooms. While mushrooms may grow in your garden, they should not be confused with vegetables. Many mushrooms are poisonous and even experts have difficulty distinguishing between poisonous and non-poisonous mushrooms.
- 5). Clean up feces, leaves and trimmings. These items create dark and damp areas in your garden, ideal for mushrooms.
