How to Compost Swamp Mud
- 1). Collect the swamp mud using your shovel and bucket or wheel barrow. Carry it to your compost heap.
- 2). Allow the mud to stand in the sunlight for three to five days, if possible. This will help to draw some moisture out, making it easier to compost.
- 3). Shovel the swamp mud onto the top of your compost heap. The layer of mud should not be deeper than 1 foot.
- 4). Add equal amounts of hay or other dry material to the layer of mud. Turn and mix the mud and hay using your rake. This will aerate the mixture and maintain the proper moisture level.
- 5). Add more swamp mud then more hay, mix and continue until you have added all of the mud.
