The historic County of Devon is fast becoming one of the UK's leading destinations for the eco-conscious traveller.
Whether you are coming for the amazing walking, a family beach holiday, great campsites, a city break in Exeter or Plymouth, or water sports, Devon offers a huge range of holiday options.
Although the third largest county in England, it is easier than you imagine to leave your car behind.
North Devon is renowned for its rugged cliffs, broken by sandy beaches.
The towns of Ilfracombe and Bideford are worth a visit, as are the villages, such as Clovelly, which cluster round the protective north coast harbours.
To really get to know this area, the best way to travel is on foot along the South West Coastal Path.
In the centre of the county, Dartmoor National Park offers a wonderful wilderness landscape of rugged heather Moorland, beautiful river valleys and charming villages, with an abundance of wildlife and native species, including the threatened Dartmoor pony.
To truly appreciate the beauty of Dartmoor, with its distinctive granite outcrops (locally called Tors), you could get the bus and then explore by foot, mountain bike or horseback.
With Devon's wonderful network of paths and trails you can easily walk and cycle to a host of attractions.
For those who want to explore the really unspoilt corners of Devon, the county boasts an unparalleled patchwork of green lanes which link remote hamlets and offer a shady haven on a hot day.
Less visited by the crowds than Torbay, the resorts of Teignmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Exmouth, Seaton and Sidmouth along the South Devon coast reflect their Regency heritage and are well suited to a good old-fashioned family bucket & spade holiday.
The resorts of Brixham, Torquay and Paignton re-launched themselves as the English Riviera in the 1980s, and rightly so.
With a great selection of places to eat, top quality accommodation, secure harbours, beaches and a mild climate, they offer visitors everything from camping and fishing trips to night clubbing and water-skiing.
All are accessible by public transport.
The South Hams is a particularly beautiful area, stretching from the edge of Torbay along to the edge of Plymouth.
The countryside along the River Dart and on the Kingsbridge Estuary, and the market towns of Totnes, Dartmouth, Salcombe and Kingsbridge, are particularly charming.
All can be explored by bus, on a boat trip or even by canoe.
Devon boasts that it produces some of the best food and drink in the world, so think twice before you head off to the big supermarket to stock up.
For a true taste of Devon, visit local markets, shops, pubs and restaurants.
You'll be contributing to the local economy, and helping reduce food miles and traffic.
To help you make your decision, the Green Tourism Business Scheme has been introduced, so keep an eye out for places to stay, visit, eat at and shop in that display the sticker.
