How to Remove a Faucet From a Copper Water Line
- 1). Turn off the water supply for the faucet you will remove. Look underneath where the faucet is installed. You should see either two copper lines that meet the faucet or two hoses snaking back to a copper pipe connection on the wall. Where the hoses meet, you will see shut-off valves. If there are just pipes, the shut-off valves will be mounted on the pipes. In either case, rotate the shut-off valves to the right to turn off the water.
- 2). Use the adjustable wrench or pliers to loosen the coupling connecting the pipe or hose to the underside of the faucet. Wipe up any water dripping out with a towel.
- 3). Unscrew the plastic wing nuts located just above where the copper pipe or hoses were connected. Use the pliers to turn these counterclockwise. You may need to gently bend the copper pipes out of the way so you can reach the wing nuts.
- 4). Gently rock the faucet body on the top of the sink back and forth a few times until it begins to come loose. If needed, run the utility knife around the base of the faucet to cut away any caulk. Lift the faucet up and off the sink.
