How to Format a C-Drive Before Installing a Fresh Copy of Windows XP

    • 1). Insert the Windows XP installation CD into your disc drive and restart your computer to launch the XP setup from the CD.

    • 2). Press the "Enter" key at the "Welcome to Setup" page.

    • 3). Press the "F8" key to accept the licensing agreement.

    • 4). Press the "Esc" key to bypass the option to repair your existing XP installation.

    • 5). Use the arrow keys to select a partition on your hard drive and press the "D" key to delete the existing partition. If you are deleting the system partition, you will also have to press the "L" key to confirm. Repeat this process until all partitions are removed.

    • 6). Select the non-partition space on your hard drive and press the "C" key to create a new partition. You can choose the partition's maximum size and even create additional partitions if you need.

    • 7). Select the partition where you want to install a new copy of Windows XP and press the "Enter" key. This will begin the formatting process.

    • 8). Select the file type and format option you would like to use.

    • 9). Press the "Enter" key and allow the setup to format the new partition on your C drive before installing the new copy of Windows XP.
