    • 1). Crochet a chain with one color. Make it as long as needed for your blanket. To make a chain stitch, make a slip knot at the end of the yarn, leaving at least an inch tail at the end. Place the loop on your crochet hook. Yarn over and pull the yarn through the loop. Repeat this pattern until you have the desired width of your blanket.

    • 2). Crochet an extra three chains. Insert your crochet hook into the fourth stitch from your hook. Yarn over and pull the yarn back through the stitch. You should have three strings of yarn on your crochet hook. Yarn over and pull through two strings. You will have two strings left on the crochet hook. Yarn over and pull through two strings, leaving you with one string on the crochet hook. Repeat this stitch of double crochets in each chain stitch all the way across.

    • 3). Chain three and turn your work so you are crocheting right to left. Yarn over and insert your crochet hook into the second double crochet in the row right below. Double crochet in each stitch across. Continue to make as many rows in this color as you want. You will change colors as you make your last stitch at the end of the row.

    • 4). Yarn over and insert your crochet hook into the top loop of the double crochet in the previous row. Yarn over and bring the yarn through. You will have three loops on your hook. Yarn over and bring through two loops. Drop the color yarn you are using and pick up the new color, leaving about a 2-inch tail of yarn at one end. Bring the new color through the last two loops on your crochet hook. Do not cut the previous yarn color until you have crocheted at least four more double crochet. Cut the yarn off, leaving about a 6-inch tail.

    • 5). Hide the yarn tails by threading the yarn through a yarn needle. Weave the end of the yarn through the stitches of your project.
