Slow Down and Enjoy Life
This weekend I had such a great opportunity.
I have been working so much on my new venture (little hint) that I felt like I was moving a million miles a minute.
Everything needed to be done now and quickly.
But this weekend I was able to slow down and really enjoy some of the little things of life.
I didn't realize that I needed to slow down or that I wasn't really enjoying life until I decided to take my little man for a walk.
He is ten months and walking away (at least when you hold his hand).
So I decided to take advantage of the sun, it has been raining like crazy here, and went for a walk.
Well at first I was thinking to myself, what was I thinking.
For one, it was so muggy that I just wanted to go back inside so I can breath.
Secondly, my little man wants to take in everything.
So we stopped as he looked at every single thing that passed by.
From cars, to butterflies, to plants and weeds.
Seriously are the weeds that exciting? But from the eyes of a ten month old it is.
My plan was to walk from to the end of the block and then go across the street to the park.
Well once I hit that humidity I realized I am not going to make it to the park.
I walked to the end of the block then checked on my neighbor and then back to my house.
However, during this process I had to crack up at my self.
As my little man was stopping to take in everything I felt a little frustration trying to rise up inside of me.
I wanted him to hurry up.
I wanted him to look at the butterfly and walk at the same time.
I wanted him to not stop and really engage his mind into his surroundings but walk at the same time.
I then asked myself, What is the rush? Once I did that, I laughed and slowed down.
I started to look at things through his eyes and took the time to enjoy my surroundings and enjoy life.
It is so easy to let life fly by as we work on our business, projects, chores, or whatever it is that has our attention for the moment but what you have to realize is you are missing out on the very thing that allows you to focus and that is life.
We focus on all of these other things because we want a better life for our kids, or we want to live a certain lifestyle, but what about enjoying life as it is happening and as you work on creating a better life.
How can I enjoy life you may ask.
Well that's a tough one.
I would love to say take a day off to do nothing.
In fact I recommend that to my husband every now and then, but you may not be able to right now.
So below are a list of a few things that you may be able to implement.
How to enjoy life right now: -Instead of driving to work, take public transportation.
This allows time where you can look out the window and take in the scenery -Take your child (ren) outside when you get home from work.
Along day of work can be very tiring, but maybe once a week take your kid (s) outside and let them run around and explore as you run around and explore as well.
(Be careful: this activity may require you to step away from chores for that evening).
-Be a fly on the wall.
I really love sitting and watching my son enjoy himself.
It's time to play with him and also keeps my mind off of work -Go for a walk during your lunch break.
As you walk, look at the sky, breath in the air.
Think about how does it make you feel? What does it smell like.
(Beware: This activity may cause you to take a longer lunch break than normally by mistake).
These are just a few tips on how you can enjoy life today.
When was the last time you slowed down? How do you enjoy life?
