    • 1). Measure the outer edges of a picture frame that is slightly larger than the faux butterfly. Cut four pieces of a plywood to the measurements. Glue the pieces and then nail them together with a hammer and small nails. Cut a piece of plywood to fit the back of the square. Glue and nail it to the back of the square. Stain or paint the wood as desired.

    • 2). Remove the glass from the picture frame. Screw one side of a pair of hinges to the back of the picture frame, and the other side of the hinges to an edge of the shadow box. Replace the glass.

    • 3). Open the door of the shadow box. Hot glue the butterfly inside the box. Or, to make a 3-D effect, attach foam adhesive or a spring to the back of the butterfly. Include other embellishments, such as faux flowers, lettering, bows or rhinestones to the shadow box as desired.
