Whether you realize it or not, the bedroom is one of the rooms in your home that you spend a great amount of time. It is a place that you may often turn to for solace, comfort and it is the one room that you tend to sleep in virtually every night. A bedroom is designed to be a place that is a reflection of your personality or the style choices you share with a spouse. When it comes to choosing basic bedroom furniture, there are some pieces that you want to be sure you have included.

The first obvious piece is your bed itself. A bed choice can be as personal as your name. Basic bed sizes are twin, double, queen and king. The size of your bed helps to determine your level of comfort whether you are sleeping, reading or just relaxing. Choosing a bed also has a great deal to do with the type of mattress you select. Mattress types include soft, medium, firm and extra firm. Mattresses are also available with a pillow top and in therapeutic, water and air varieties. The choice becomes a matter of what you like along with what your budget can afford.

Another basic piece of bedroom furniture is a dresser. This is a place that stores your clothes and most likely will hold collectibles or perfumes or whatever you decide to put on the top of the dresser. There are thousands of different designs of dressers manufactured in virtually as many materials. A dresser is a very function piece of your bedrooms furniture for storage of your clothes that require folding and undergarments such as underwear and socks.

Even if your bedroom is very large, you may want to think wisely about the additional pieces you add after you have chosen a bed and dresser. The next pieces that make the most sense are night stands. These small cabinets are usually chosen to sit on both sides of the bed and provide a space to sit lamps on the top as well as drawer space for things that you want to keep organized at your bedside. Night stands are a logical place to sit your alarm clock, to place the bedroom house telephone or your cell phone as well as your car keys. Night stands also provide a place to put remote controls and other electronic devices you may want to keep close at hand.

Depending on the space you have in your bedroom, some basic additions can include book shelves, a desk and chair and a sofa and chairs and cocktail table. The idea is that whatever basic bedroom furniture you choose, you want to be sure that your bedroom is comfortably decorated so that you can move around the bedroom without having to step over any particular piece of furniture to get around it.

Many manufacturers design bedroom sets which include a complete feature of bedroom furniture that eliminates the guesswork when it comes to choosing your basic furniture.
