How to Make Vintage Halloween Molds
- 1). Gently wash and dry the vintage piece you want to recreate.
- 2). Soften a piece of polymer clay by kneading and rolling it with your hands. Form into a ball a little larger than the object. If you are molding a figurine, rather than a bead, make a mold of both the front of the object and the back.
- 3). Press a vintage Halloween ornament or bead into the ball of polymer clay. Pull the object directly out. If the impression is poor or uneven, roll the clay back into a ball and try again. Do the same with the back side of the object. Make sure the clay comes up all the way to the center line of the object when molding both sides. You want deep, clear lines to make an accurate mold.
- 4). Allow the clay to dry according to package instructions. Some clay should be baked in the oven; others can be air-dried.
- 5). Spray the dried polymer clay with a clear shellac. This will seal the mold. It will also keep clay from sticking to the mold when creating your vintage Halloween reproductions.
