Christmas Decoration Ideas for a Big Place

Monochromatic Decorations

If you have to buy lots of decor for the area, sticking to one color scheme may make it easier to shop for holiday accents, but will also give the room a sophisticated feel.

For instance, if you choose to use the color green as the focal point of your Christmas decor, you can line the fireplace or mantel with green garland, and hang metallic green Christmas ornaments in the corners of the garland for added texture. A green velvet floor runner adds a classy touch to the room, and you can dust it with green glitter to make it stand out. If there are tables in the room, they can each be adorned with mini Christmas trees as centerpieces, with a star in a bold shade of green situated at the top of each tree.

Christmas Tree

Making the Christmas tree the focal point of the decorations for a big place is also a great idea, and may help save you the time of having to decorate several areas of the venue. It's best to choose a large tree, and to position it either in the center of the room, or in a corner where it will be noticed as soon as people walk into the space. Gold and silver ornaments will make the tree shine and sparkle, and streamers in metallic colors will give the tree an especially festive look. You may also want to add artificial snow to the tree to include even more Christmas spirit in the decor, and an elaborate tree skirt in red, green, or white velvet and gold or silver trim will make the tree stand out as well. Smaller decor, such as wreaths or clusters of mistletoe, can be added to the room so that the walls don't look barren, but shouldn't take away from the overall grandeur of the tree.

Whimsical Decor

Christmas decorations that are cartoon-y and whimsical are perfect for a large space like the front or backyard, or an area where children will be often, such as a toy store or a child's play area. Large blow-up versions of Christmas characters like Santa Claus and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer can take up a considerable amount of space, especially if they have a special featuring like waving or talking.

Other mechanical decorations, like a row of Christmas elves that move together to make toys or a replica of Santa and his reindeer flying over a chimney are also eye-catching. These moving decorations are usually so compelling that only minor decorations are needed for the rest of the large space, such as a few boughs of holly or artificial snow to trim the windows.
