How Safe Are Electronic Payments?
- When paying with a credit or debit card, never enter your card number unless you see a padlock sign in your Web browser window frame. It should not be on the Web page itself. Reputable sites usually state that payments are protected by a security system, such as SecureCode.
- Using payment services, such as PayPal, Nochex or Moneybookers, is an alternative to online credit card payments. Protect your account with a strong password, don't disclose it to anyone and use a different password for each service you use.
- To prevent fraud, banks and card providers have developed systems that detect unusual or high-risk transactions through customers' accounts. If an irregularity is suspected, the bank contacts the customer to verify that the transaction is genuine. If it's not, a block is placed on the payment.
