How to Plant a Date Palm Tree Seed
- 1). Prepare a planting mixture of equal parts of potting soil, organic compost and peat moss. Mix well.
- 2). Place the mixture in small pots. Styrofoam coffee cups may be used if a hole is punched in the bottom for drainage.
- 3). Plant one seed in each pot, 1 inch under the soil.
- 4). Water well. The seed pots should remain uniformly moist, but not soggy.
- 5). Place the pots in a warm and humid spot. A greenhouse environment is preferred, but not necessary as long as the containers are kept out of the hot sun and not allowed to dry out.
- 6). Replant into larger 12-inch pots, using the same potting soil mixture, when the plants are 4 to 6 inches tall. Plants should remain in the larger pots until well established and well rooted. New seedlings enjoy bright, filtered sunlight.
- 7). Plant in a permanent sunny location in the landscape when date palms are 1 to 2 feet tall.
