  Create hurricanes candles that are memorable and reflect a particular mood or atmosphere in your environment. Mix and match the two to strengthen color schemes already established. Homemade candles allow you the opportunity to add items specifically important to you--for example, leaves from a fall trip to NYC--into the wax. Place hurricanes of varying sizes in one location to create an interesting pattern.
  
  

Reverse Decoupage

• Reverse decoupage is similar to the traditional decoupage method. A glass hurricane vase of any size is required as well as a picture to decoupage--for example, gift wrap, floral pattern or dipped magazine picture. Pay particular attention to color and brightness when selecting the image. Glue, glass paint, scissors, water, paper towels, window cleaner, a knife and cutting mat are also necessary items. To begin, cut your image out making sure to get clean sides and drop the picture into water. Remove and pat dry with a paper towel. Pay close attention to this step to prevent future wrinkling. Next, apply glue to the front of the image and place on the inside of the lamp. Be creative and layer complementary images on top of one another. Apply glue to backs of images as well. After everything is completely dry, dab a paper towel with glass cleaner and wipe away excess glue. Lastly, paint three or four layers of cream pain on the inside of the hurricane to instill a soft glow when candles are lit. Allow at least 24 hours to dry before using.
  
  

Floating Candles

• Whether you're looking for a delicate, memorable centerpiece for wedding reception tables or simply searching for a decorative bathroom accessory, floating candles resting in colored water inside hurricane holders sets a relaxing mood. Match water color to candle color, using varying shades for both materials. Also, keep in mind that when you fill the holder with water, the height level should reflect your ability to light the wick. A long-handle lighter is suggested. Turquoise water with navy, blue, purple or white candles as well as lavender water with deep purple candles both offer a comforting atmosphere. A standard size white pillar candle--matched to the size of its holder--a double boiler and thermometer, wax and water, and a candle mold are necessary materials. A cookie sheet, cooking spray and paring knife are also required. Natural elements such as leaves or flowers are ideal for setting in the wax. The darker the better for the best candle-lit effect. To begin, melt the wax and pour wax into the insert. Add mold to a pre-prepared water bath and allow to sit for twenty minutes to harden. Remove excess liquid wax and pull out a finished candle.
