Single Bed Vs. Twin Bed

    Single Beds

    • Excluding baby cribs and toddler beds, a single bed is the smallest standard size bed. It generally provides enough space for one child or small adult to sleep.

    Twin Beds

    • In the United States, "twin bed" is usually synonymous with "single bed." However, in many countries, twin beds refer to a pair of matching single beds.

    Variations

    • Single/twin beds are often available in numerous variations, such as extra long or extra small. Standard mattress dimensions can also vary by as much as half an inch, depending on the manufacturer.

    Dimensions

    • In North America, single/twin beds are approximately 38 inches wide and 75 inches long. Dimensions of comparable beds in Europe, Latin America, and Australia run slightly narrower but are close to the same length or a few inches longer.

    Other Bed Sizes

    • Single and twin beds are distinguished from wider and longer beds intended for larger adults or more than one person. At approximately 53 inches wide by 75 inches long, the full or double bed sleeps one or two adults. A queen bed offers more room, measuring around 60 by 80 inches, and the king bed adds an additional 16 inches to the width of a queen bed.
