How to Patch Wallboard After Taking Wallpaper Down
- 1). Gather drywall compound, a spreader, coarse sandpaper and plastic to protect the floor before the project begins. Having all the tools in the area will cut down on the time it takes to patch the walls.
- 2). Sand the area of the wall that needs to be patched with coarse sandpaper.
- 3). Dip the spreader into the drywall compound and spread it over the dent. Spread the compound, making it as smooth as possible. The patch job may require a few coats of compound, depending on the size and depth of the hole. Let it dry overnight.
- 4). Sand the area again, smoothing out any rough areas. Finish using fine grade sandpaper. Once the area is smooth, the wall is ready to prime and paint, or wallpaper again.
