Homemade Easter garlands add a customized look to your home during spring. The holiday provides several associated symbols that translate well to garlands made from a variety of materials. The homemade garlands use inexpensive materials, making the Easter decoration projects budget-friendly. Hang the Easter garlands on the wall, a fireplace mantel or along a table for an Easter party.

    Felt

    • This garland uses felt Easter shapes glued or sewn together as the base. Add an Easter message to the garland in the form of felt letters. Choose felt in lots of spring colors such as orange, yellow, pink and lavender. Make a template for the Easter shapes that will make up the garland: flowers, Easter eggs or bunnies. Trace the shapes onto the different colors of felt and cut them out. Decide on the Easter greeting you want on the garland. "Happy Easter" is a simple option. Another option is to add a religious aspect to the Easter message. Cut out the letters in the message from felt. Glue or sew one letter on each shape. Leave one plain shape for the spaces between the words in the message. You can add other embellishments such as a blanket stitch around the edge of the shapes. Sew or glue the Easter shapes together in a row to create the garland.

    Paper

    • Decorative scrapbook paper also works well as the base for the Easter garland. This garland is constructed much the same way as the felt garland. Choose paper with Easter patterns and bright spring colors for the shapes and letters. Create a template for the background shapes and trace it onto the back side of the decorative paper. Cut out the shapes. Cut out the letter of the Easter message from contrasting paper. Glue the letters onto the shapes. Glue or tape the shapes together in a row to spell out the Easter message.

    Plastic Eggs

    • Put all of the leftover plastic Easter eggs from past years to good use with this garland idea. You'll need a long string, plastic eggs and beads. Open up the Easter eggs, center the string through the middle of the egg and close the egg onto the string. Slide decorative beads onto the string to create a space before adding the next plastic Easter egg. Continue adding beads and Easter eggs to complete the festive Easter garland.

    Vellum

    • Vellum is a type of translucent paper often used in paper crafts. You'll find a variety of colors and finishes in vellum which is usually sold in the scrapbooking section at craft stores. Cut small Easter shapes such as bunnies, eggs or flowers from vellum in different colors. Using a template ensures that all of the shapes are uniform. Punch two small holes at the top of each shape. Weave a thin ribbon or string through the two holes on each shape. Continue adding shapes to the string to complete the garland.
