My Favorite Silly Holidays - What Are Yours?
I was surprised to find out that there a number of holidays to be celebrated each day of every month for the entire year.
Everywhere someone is celebrating something.
So I've searched the Internet to see what those holidays are and here are some of them that I find interesting and silly: Waffle Day I always love waffles and I was surprised to find out that August 24th is National Waffle Day.
Well I should be celebrating that since the waffle is my favourite quick treat.
The day is the anniversary of the first US patent of the waffle iron which was submitted by Cornelius Swarthout.
Breakfast is not complete without waffles and these can also make a great dessert.
The classic way to enjoy your waffles is with some real maple syrup.
You can also add butter, bacon or some fruit (blueberry is fantastic!).
A quick way to enjoy waffles is with a scoop of ice cream and your favorite topping like chocolate, strawberry and many more.
Aside for National Waffle Day, there is also International Waffle Day which is celebrated every 25th of March.
The very first waffle was made during the Middle Age in the province of Brabant in what we today know as Belgium.
A waffle is really just a batter based cake cooked in a waffle iron.
Watermelon Day One of the yummiest and refreshing (and also low fat) fruits that I like is watermelon.
National Watermelon day is celebrated every 3rd of August.
Watermelon contains more than 90% water and was used as source of water since the time of ancient travellers.
Technically watermelon is considered by horticulturists to be a vegetable rather than a fruit.
Watermelon comes in a number of different shapes and sizes with slightly different flavours.
Did you know that Japan had recently developed a square watermelon? Now that, I want to see! Watermelon weighs about 5 to 40 pounds and the Guinness Book of Records lists the largest watermelon to be weighing about 262 pounds.
Now that's something to celebrate on this silly holiday! International Coffee Day This is also one of my favourite weird holidays, International Coffee Day.
I should be celebrating this together with other coffeholics out there! This silly holiday is celebrated every 29th of September and is celebrated in the countries of United States, Malaysia, Canada, England and Ethiopia.
It was first celebrated in Japan on October 1, 1983 but became official when the United States started to celebrate it in 2005 every 29th of September.
During this day some companies offer discounts or free coffee to encourage people to enjoy a cup of java.
Check out your favourite cafe when it's this time of the year and see if you can grab your own free coffee.
