On February 28, 1996, Babyface won his first Producer of the Year Award at the 38th Annual Grammy Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California.
Babyface composed and produced the all-star Waiting to Exhale soundtrack which was released November 14, 1995. The album featured Whitney Houston (who starred in the film), Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Toni Braxton, Mary J. Blige, Patti LaBelle, Brandy, and more outstanding female artists.
The album received eleven Grammy nominations including Album of the Year and sold over seven million copies. It remained at number one on the Billboard 200 for five weeks, and topped the RandB chart for ten weeks.
In addition to writing and producing the soundtrack, Babyface also scored the film.
