Information on Floor Tiles
- Tiles are typically set into mortar, which consists of cement, sand and a latex additive that operates as an extra adhesive. The spaces between tiles are filled with grout.
- The most common substances used for floor tiles include ceramic, porcelain, vinyl or stone. Some new advancements have allowed for glass, plastic and even rubber tiles on floors.
- Tiles can come in all different shapes and sizes but should be based on the size of the floor. The standard shape is square and sizes are available in 4, 6, 8, 12, 13, 18 and 24 inches.
- There are considerations in determining which type of tiles to purchase. Stone tiles can stain, marble tiles can be quite slippery, rubber tiles are for durability and plastic tiles are quite easy to assemble.
- Those who wish for a particular pattern or design on tile floors may wish to choose mosaic tiles, which can be laid in different patterns, or ceramic tiles, which can be glazed and painted.
