How to Apply a Rubber Roof
- 1). Begin with a clean, dry surface. Inspect your decking to ensure that it is properly and firmly installed. You'll get best results if you apply your rubber roof on a day without rain when the temperature is above 70 degrees F.

Roll out the rubber sheeting on the roof and let it relax for about half an hour. It should extend a few inches beyond the edge of the roof or up the sides if the roof is completely flat. - 3). Position the rubber membrane on the roof. Fold the edge back over itself so you can apply adhesive.
- 4). Working in manageable sections of roof and rubber, spread bonding adhesive on the roof decking and on the rubber sheet. Allow the adhesive to cure to a tacky state. Work carefully (you might want help with this) to lay the rubber roofing material on the deck surface, adhesive to adhesive.
- 5). Smooth the rubber sheet onto the decking with a push broom.
- 1). Make a neat round or oval cut around the damage in the sheet rubber on your roof. It's important to make a clean cut to ensure your patch fits well; you may get best results if you draw your circle before you start cutting. Use contact cement to glue down any loose spots before you set the patch in place.
- 2). Using the cutout piece as a pattern, cut a patch from a new sheet of self-stick sheet rubber roofing. You want the patch to fit tightly in the hole you cut, so cut accordingly.
- 3). Press the new rubber patch into place. Use paint thinner to clean the surface of the patch and the surrounding old rubber.
- 4). Use a squeegee and roller to apply a coat of liquid rubber over the patch and the surrounding roof area.
- 1). Use a brush and detergent to clean the roof. Rinse thoroughly with clear water and allow to dry overnight.
- 2). Use painter's tape to outline the area where you want to apply the liquid rubber roof.
- 3). Spread a smooth light coat of liquid rubber roofing over the surface of your RV roof using a squeegee, a paint roller and a paint brush.
