How to Repair Direct TV Tivo
- 1). Determine whether your TiVo has a picture problem. If it randomly freezes, stops and starts or restarts, becomes out of sync, or has a green error screen, you probably have a bad hard drive. Order a replacement hard drive to install yourself (see the Resource area of this article) or take it to a professional.
- 2). Determine whether you have a damaged satellite tuner. If your TiVo constantly searches for satellite, receives pixilated pictures frequently but only on certain channels, or finds no satellite when you run a satellite test, order a satellite tuner repair. See the Resource area of this article, or contact your service provider for assistance.
- 3). Start up your TiVo. If it displays a black or blue screen or nothing at all, you probably require a new power supply. Contact your service provider to order the correct replacement.
- 4). Read the error message. If your TiVo shows a "Failed" error message such as "No Dial Tone," "Modem Not Responding" or a dialing error, begin by checking your phone settings. Make sure you have a dial tone and no waiting messages, as this can interrupt your dial tone. Next, try replacing the TiVo's phone cord with a shorter one, and do not use any splitters. If you still are unable to connect, replace the modem.
- 5). Raise a TiVo that is overheating so that it can get airflow beneath it. Set something under each corner to lift it, such as decks of cards. If it continues to overheat, seek professional assistance. It may need a new fan or motherboard.
