How to Organize Children's DVDs
- 1). Gather all of the children's DVDs that you own. Choose an open space with plenty of room for sorting and organizing them.
- 2). Go through all of the movies. Remove any that the kids never watch or DVDs that are damaged. Consider donating the old DVDs to a children's hospital or other charity.
- 3). Decide how you want to store the DVDs. Many people keep them in the DVD cases to protect them. If you have a lot of children's DVDs, consider a special binder that holds DVDs and CDs. This allows you to keep all of the DVDs in one compact location. You can store the cases somewhere else for future use.
- 4). Choose the best organizational format for the DVDs. Ideas include alphabetical, popularity with your kids, subject matter or type of movies. If your kids will get the DVDs themselves, consider the organizational method that is easiest for them to maintain. Alphabetical order makes it easy for adults to find the movies, but kids might have more difficulty finding and maintaining that system. Conversely, this is a great way to teach children how to alphabetize.
- 5). Sort the children's DVDs based on the selected organizational method. Make piles of the DVDs in their cases for the initial organization.
- 6). Place the DVDs in the selected storage unit. If you're using a binder, remove all of the DVDs and place them in the binder. If you're keeping them in the cases, place them on the shelf or storage unit in the correct order.
- 7). Add labels to the storage area to help keep the DVDs organized. If you're using a binder, use plastic tabs on the side to indicate different sections based on the organizational method. Use a sticky label on the shelf if you're keeping the DVDs in the case.
- 8). Teach your kids the organizational system you've implemented. Show them how to find a specific DVD and how to put them back in the correct spot. Getting the kids involved gives them ownership and responsibility for their DVDs.
- 9). Test out the organizational method for a few weeks. If the type of organization you chose isn't working well, try a different method of organizing the DVDs.
