How to Fix XP Services Settings
- 1). Click on "Start" and then click on "Control Panel."
- 2). Double-click on the "Administrative Tools" icon on the Control Panel window that opens.
- 3). Double-click on the "Services" icon on the Administrative Tools window that opens.
- 4). Right-click on a Service name on the right pane of the Services window that opens, and then click on "Properties." For example, if you want to change the settings of the Print Spooler service, right-click on it, and click on "Properties."
- 5). Click on the "General" tab of the Properties dialog box that opens, and then click on the "Start" button to start the service if it not already running. If it is already running and you want to stop it then click on the "Stop" button.
- 6). Click on the "Log On" tab, and then click to select the "This account" option if you want this Service to run under some other user account.
- 7). Click on the "Browse" button, select the user account under which you want this Service to run, and then type the password for that user account in the "Password" Box.
- 8). Click on the "Recovery" tab if you want to set the recovery options for this service. The available options includes: what do you want the computer to do when the Service fails for the first time ("First failure"), similarly the action to be taken on "Second failure" and "Subsequent failure." The available settings for these three options include: "Take No Action," "Restart the Service," "Run a Program" and "Restart the Computer." If you select the "Run a Program" option then you can select the program to run by clicking on the "Browse" button.
- 9). Click on the "Apply" button, and then click on "OK" after you are done.
