Usually women with fibroids have no more trouble getting pregnant than those women who do not have fibroids, many women with infertility problems actually do have fibroids but the cause of the infertility has nothing to do with the fibroids except in about 2% to 3% of cases.
Fibroids which are in a position to block one or both of the fallopian tubes may prevent sperm from fertilizing the egg.
Fibroids which are present in the actual uterus may prevent the implantation of fertilized eggs.
Fibroids which are located in the uterus could increase the chance of a miscarriage or could cause premature labor.
They may also affect the position of the baby in the womb (fetal malpresentation) and prevent it from positioning to come out head first.
Women with fibroids do have a greater incidence of Caesarean section births.
