How to Put New Drum Covers On Drums
- 1). Place the drum shell flat onto a surface with the top of the drum facing upwards. Place the drum head over the rim of the drum. Press the edges of the drum head into place using the tips of your fingers until it fits snugly onto the drum rim.
- 2). Put the large chrome hoop (drum rim) on the drum head, fitted so that the hoop completely surrounds the edge of the mounted head. Press down on the hoop, and twist it around the rim until the screw holes around the edge of the hoop align with the lugs on the shell of the drum.
- 3). Place the tension rods (lug screws) through the screw holes on the drum rim and screw them into the lugs at the side of the drum shell to secure the rim in place. Screwing the lug screws into the lugs will tighten the head of the drum. Screwing the lugs tighter will alter the sound of the drum head. Place all the screws in at once, screwing them loosely into place. Tighten the screws further, keeping the tension on the drum head even, until the rim is securely placed.
- 4). Tighten the drumhead using the lug screws to obtain the sound pitch you wish, testing the drum by hitting the surface with a drumstick after each alteration in the screws. Use the socket wrench on the lug screws to tighten the screws more precisely.
