Acoustic Slide Guitar

• 1). Choose a microphone suitable for capturing slide guitar performed on an acoustic guitar. In most cases, condenser microphones are preferred for capturing acoustic guitar. This is because condenser microphones are better suited for capturing the detailed high frequencies created by acoustic guitars.
  
  
• 2). Place the microphone approximately 12 to 16 inches from the acoustic guitar, aiming the microphone’s capsule at the point where the neck meets the body of the guitar.
  
  
• 3). Move the microphone closer to the sound hole of the acoustic guitar to increase the amount of bass picked up from the guitar. Alternatively, more the microphone closer to the neck of the guitar to enhance the amount of brightness picked up from the guitar.
  
  
• 4). Move the microphone further away from the guitar to pick up more of the room with the microphone or move the microphone closer to the guitar for a more direct and intimate sound.
  
  

Electric Slide Guitar

• 1). Chose a microphone suitable for capturing slide guitar performed on an electric guitar. More often than not, dynamic microphones are preferred for capturing electric guitar. This is because dynamic microphones are able to withstand the high-sound pressure levels created by electric-guitar amplifiers.
  
  
• 2). Place the microphone right up against the grille of the electric-guitar amplifier and point it toward the center of one of its speakers.
  
  
• 3). Keep the microphone in the center of the speaker for a bright and present sound. Move the microphone off to the side of the speaker to capture a more rounded sound with less treble.
  
  
• 4). Move the microphone further away from the guitar amplifier to capture more of the sound from the room. Leave the microphone close to the speaker for a more direct and "in-your-face" sound.
  
  
• 5). Place the microphone to face the back of the amplifier if it has an open cabinet design. This will capture a warmer tonality from the guitar amp
