    • 1). Upgrade all of your connecting devices (such as cable/satellite receiver or DVD player) to HD. To fully take advantage of an HDTV you need your output devices to be HD also. Upgrading your cable or satellite service typically costs about $10 extra a month while Blu-ray players can be found for as little as $100.

    • 2). Connect your devices to your television via HDMI cable. An HDMI cable provides both high-definition audio and video signals at the same time in a single cable. Plug the HDMI cable into the HDMI port of the output device and connect the other end into an available HDMI port on the LCD TV.

    • 3). Power on your television and the connecting device and select the HDMI input by pressing the "Input" button on your remote control and scrolling through the available selections. Select your cable/satellite receiver.

    • 4). Press the "Menu" button on the cable/satellite remote control and select the video options menu. Find "Aspect Ratio" and adjust it to fit your TV settings (either 720 or 1080). Exit out of the video options.

    • 5). Push the "Menu" button on the TV remote and select "Picture." Here you can adjust all of the image settings for the TV. Although the settings are already set up to best display your HD needs you can adjust the settings to better fit your needs. The brightness increases/decreases the brightness of the TV, contrast adjusts the difference between the bright and dark areas of the screen. Move the levels of the settings up and down until you find a setting you like. Feel free to select "Original Settings" if you want to go back to how the television was originally programmed.
