Oprah and Gayle hit the road and headed on another adventure together.

Show Summary:

Four years ago Oprah and Gayle's road trip became one of the most popular series of episodes the show has ever seen. Viewers love to see Oprah and her BFF be just like you and me -- sing in the car, get irritated with each other, try out something new, get lost, make a mistake, meet new friends, shop for supplies, and have morning hair.

On this episode of The Oprah Show, the duo introduced their latest trip -- but with a twist. Yosemite National Park was waiting for the pair to arrive to begin their two day camping adventure and Part 1 had plenty for us to see why we all love to watch Oprah and Gayle just being themselves.

Special Highlights:

This episode featured the following highlights:
  • Park Ranger Shelton Johnson wrote to Oprah asking for her help in increasing visitors, especially the African American community, at the country's National Parks. Oprah and Gayle decided to hit the road and visit Shelton at Yosemite.

  • Oprah and Gayle visited REI to get supplies and a pop-up camper lesson before starting their drive to the park -- complete with Gayle singing!

  • Seeing the giant sequoia trees, getting the camp site set up, and making dinner took up most of Oprah and Gayle's first day.

What to Take Away from the Show:

If you have never been camping before, this episode was the perfect way to get a feel for what goes into the experience -- even if you don't have a new Tahoe to drive to the site, camper with a bathroom, and limitless shopping trip to REI for supplies, you can have a great time in the outdoors.

When Oprah and Gayle walked around the other sites, the basics of camping were the same at each one -- sleeping, eating, and playing. Camping can be a lot of work at first, but once you get your own routine, it can be the best way to get quiet time and reconnect with the peace of nature and even make a few new friends along the way -- because as Oprah said on the show, campers really are the friendliest people!
