When most guys think about the idea of being able to pick up women, they usually think of the jerks and the cads that seem to have an easier time than nice guys. So, they'll come to the conclusion that if they are a nice guy, they don't really stand a chance of being able to have any success at all if they start to try to pick up women. That doesn't have to be the way that it is and most of the time, the jerks and the cads don't have nearly as much success as you assume they do. They go home alone probably a lot more often than they would ever like to admit.

1) It's all about the confidence that YOU feel.
Self confidence is something that women can usually pick up on, especially when you DON'T have it. If you are going to be successful with women in any way, you are going to have to learn to feel self confident. Without that feeling, you are not just going to give off the wrong vibe, you are also probably not going to take many chances at all, thus limiting your success.
2) It's also about making her feel like you are not there to pick her up.
As weird as it may sound, to be good at picking up women, you have to make it seem like that is not at all what you are trying to do. When you make a woman feel like you are just there to try and get her number or something like that, you automatically place her in a defensive position where she is more inclined to reject you. On the other hand, if you give her the impression that you are just trying to make conversation - that is another story. You'll be a lot more likely to end up getting that phone number.
3) Finally, you have to become aware of the fact that success comes with experience.
You can't expect to turn into a guy who gets numbers left and right overnight. It takes time to get to a point where you are really good at picking up women and you need experience to know what to do in certain situations.
