How to Apply for a HUD Home in Joliet Illinois
- 1). Contact the Housing Authority of Joliet to find out if the waiting list is open for HUD housing. Call (815) 727-0611, extension 100 and speak with the receptionist.
- 2). Register over the phone to receive a HUD housing application. The receptionist will ask for your name, address and phone number. You will receive a pre-application by U.S. mail.
- 3). Complete the pre-application form and return it to the Housing Authority of Joliet by mail. Your application will get time-stamped, dated and processed, once the Housing Authority receives it. The Public Housing Program then receives your application from the Housing Authority and enters it into the computer system, which places you on the waiting list.
- 4). Remain patient as you wait for your application to reach the top of the waiting list. When it does, a representative from the Conventional Public Housing Program will call you to schedule an eligibility interview to determine if you meet HUD’s criteria for assistance.
