Do diets actually work!? That's the number-one question most people frantically ask before committing to any program.
The reason is relatively simple: for every proponent of a particular diet program, there's a naysayer in the not-so-distant background, decrying its effectiveness.
People want to lose weight - nobody honestly enjoys love handles and stretch marks.
The truth of the matter is that almost all diets work if you adhere to them properly, showing the will and determination to actually lose the weight.
The problem is with that head-rearing beast, the plateau.
The weight-loss plateau is that seeming dead end on the road; the point where your effort screams to you that it was for naught.
It is also the point where many people celebrate their misery with a piece of pie and a bucket of KFC's finest.
After seeing the weight fall off for weeks, five pounds then four then three, it all halts and your system is stabilized.
Most diets provide a shock to the system, causing the body to eat itself (it's not as gross as it sounds!), effectively resulting in a lower weight.
But once the plateau sets in, and it will, you have to push through it.
You can't give up hope here.
You've come too far.
A few methods will help you fight through this hurdle and continue to lose weight.
Three ways to push through that inevitable plateau! oThe first thing here is to remember that honesty is the best policy.
Your plateau may have set in due to a diet program that's not being adhered to properly.
Keep a food log.
Register what you're putting into your body.
And lastly, know that not every week is going to be a record-breaking one.
It takes determination.
oSweat into those oldies! Look, exercise is essential with any successful program.
A diet is as much-maybe even more-about changing your lifestyle as it is changing your waistline.
Stick with or get on a workout routine, including resistance training and cardio.
Stick with this and your diet and that plateau will be conquered.
oThe aforementioned routine of a diet will slow your system.
There's no two ways about it.
The trick here is to "shock" your system by keeping it guessing, so to speak.
If your diet requires a calorie intake of, say, 1600 calories, go with 1200 for a day, then back up to 1400.
Your metabolism will kick into overdrive and you'll shatter that plateau.
These are just a few ways to get past that plateau.
The most important aspect here is to actually stick with that diet! It works; it just takes time.
